I am sure this is not a surprise, that I don't stage my rooms and projects.
But I want to explain why-
When I started my blog adventure, I wanted a place to document my projects and my likes and thoughts on decorating my house. I also want to keep things real. This is how I really live. I have stuff and my stuff is out and used.

One of my goals, is to have only beautiful and usable stuff (not sure how to make the remote beautiful) but you get the idea. Basically, what I put up is what you would see if you came to my house, provided I have done my cleaning.
I am not a big shopper. I have a very hard time spending money on things. I usually wait until I see something I think I can use, something interesting and unloved, and if the price is right I want to see how to use it.
Instead of staging, I like to problem solve.
I need a rug...I can't find a rug I like.... for the price I want to spend...so can I make one? maybe?
I hate my carpet...I have no money to do hardwood today... what can I do? hmm, can you paint sub-floor?
I have an ugly pantry door...I like the look of chalk board paint... I have kids....
You see where this going.

It is nice to see a decorating blog that keeps things honest.
ReplyDeleteStaging a house is a term used when trying to sell a house, not while living in it. In staging you are eliminating the clutter or personal decor and trying to appeal to the masses which means gender neutral. I cant imagine using the "I dont stage my home" reference while living there. It is obvious that we decorate our homes in a manner that is to our liking. In decorating one persons idea of a specific look will most likely be a different idea to another. I believe you are decorating in a less is more manner, which is actually taking hold quite quickly. I myself love to accessorize. An arrangement of several decorative pieces can add so much to a room. This can be acheived without making the room look cluttered. In your decorating style you seem to use peices that are not in scale or size with the room itself. The pieces stand out but not in a good way. They appear as tho you put no effort or interest in selecting or arranging them.
ReplyDeleteI love your post and always look forward to them! Your adventures in decorating your home always inspire me as well. Keep up the good work girl!
