I also like having daylight in all my rooms, especially first thing in the morning. That means no pull down shades, no mini blinds, really nothing that would be a traditional solution. So I am on a curtain hunt- for my specific problem...
I like the idea of solid panels for the bottom. Definitely will get the privacy needed. I would want to soften it up with an over curtain. Personally, I have never installed shutters, so that would be something new to learn.

I just had to add this photo. I love the random shutters. Maybe I need to go out salvaging.
Here is an idea on softening it up...
But I would have shutters on the bottom and the shade on the top.
This is interesting...a double rod panel over shutters (OK shutters may or not be there, but I would need them).
There is always the top down blinds.
The function is there, but the price is usually higher and I would still want to add curtains. How about window film?
Shades mounted on the bottom half of the window...
And then there is always cafe curtains. My usual solution.
I am still not sure what the final solution is going to be...I guess I will be doing some more thinking.

We have a similar privacy issue with our family room windows. Our home is on the corner of the main road that goes through our addition and you can see EVERYTHING that goes on in our family room! Currently we have blinds but if I open them the world sees in so I got my husband a DVD from Norm (This Old House) on how to make your own plantation shutters. We will have 2 layers, the ones on the bottom will stay shut while we can leave the ones on top open to let the sun in! I can't wait! Happy hunting!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Great blog, btw :)
ReplyDeleteI personally find shutters to be bulky and not very elegant. I'm a fan of the window film as it offers privacy AND lets natural light in. If you want to keep them from seeing "nakey silhouettes" at night, maybe a layer of curtains as well.
Whatever you come up with, I know it is going to be great.
